Are you missing one, two, three or more teeth?

Losing one or more of your teeth starts a chain of events that can have dire physical and cosmetic consequences. The most obvious result is a gap in your smile. You will become self-conscious when you smile and avoid showing  teeth during conversation or in photos.

Even if you lose a not so visible (molar) tooth, drifting of nearby teeth in the empty space caused by missing tooth. This will change your dental & facial structure.

Drifting of teeth if no Dental Implant is placed

A less obvious result of tooth loss is the loss of chewing function and the inability to eat a complete diet. Every day, we hear comments from our patients about what foods they can no longer eat due to their missing or severely weakened teeth. While these are certainly serious issues, a potentially bigger problem related to a missing tooth lies hidden beneath the surface: bone loss.

Your jawbone needs the chewing action of the teeth to stimulate it and keep it strong. In much the same manner that the unused muscles beneath a plaster cast supporting a broken bone get smaller, your unused jaw bone where a tooth is missing becomes weakened (atrophied) as shown above. Without the support of your teeth and facial bones, your face will begin to look prematurely aged. The good news is that tooth replacement with dental implants offers a solution to help prevent bone loss.

What are Dental Implants?

A dental implant is an artificial tooth root that is placed into your jaw to hold a replacement tooth or bridge. Dental implants are sDental Implanto natural-looking and feeling; you may forget you ever lost a tooth.

Dental implants are made of titanium, which is lightweight, strong and bio-compatible.  Titanium is not rejected by the body. Dental implants have the highest success rate of any implanted surgical device.

What options are available for Dental Implantation?

Single Tooth Replacement:

If you have a single tooth missing, one implant and a crown can replace it. A dental implant replaces both the lost natural tooth and its root.

Multiple Teeth Replacement:

If you have multiple missing teeth, implant-supported bridges can replace them. Dental implants will replace both your lost natural teeth and some of the roots.

treatment-2

Full Mouth Rehabilitation:

If you are missing all of your teeth, an implant-supported full bridge or full denture can replace them. Dental implants will replace both your lost natural teeth and some of the roots.

Are you a candidate for dental implants?

Generally speaking, if you have lost teeth you are a candidate for dental implants. It is important that you are in good health, however, as there are some conditions and diseases that can affect whether dental implants are right for you.   Dental implants can be placed at any age.

How are dental implants placed?

Placing dental implants requires a minor surgical procedure under local anesthesia in which a surgical guide is used and implants are then fitted into the sites so that they are in intimate contact with the bone. A standard implant surgery requires 15 minutes for one implant.  Implants require two to six months to fuse to the bone before they can have tooth restorations attached to them to complete the process.

What maintenance do dental implants require?

Practice good daily oral hygiene, including brushing and flossing to control bacterial bio-film. It is also important to see your dentist and dental hygienist regularly.
